Centre for Electronic Product Engineering

About

The Centre for Electronic Product Engineering (CEPE) specialises in the design of electronic products, most prominently microelectronics technologies and systems.

Staff are engaged in research in the areas of:

  • Biomedical engineering
  • Medical instrumentation
  • Control systems
  • Wireless communications networks

Working with the Wireless and Optoelectronics Research and Innovation Centre (WORIC), CEPE has extended its electrical design capability into technologies requiring innovation and commercialisation.

Our work has been with small and medium businesses and entrepreneurs on a commercial basis. However, our services are expanding to research collaborations with internal and external organisations.

Services

CEPE provides expert technical support and consultancy services in the areas of embedded microelectronics and communications technologies.

CEPE's activities embrace all phases of the electronic product development cycle from initial technical feasibility studies to final production ready equipment development.

CEPE offers technology transfer, training, product development, design reviews, industrial research and technical management support to companies that are advanced users of microelectronics to companies adopting microelectronics and communications technologies for the first time.

CEPE can provide high quality business support by access to advanced equipment and experienced technical expertise.

CEPE can deliver bespoke training for organisations in technologies embraced by its main research and development expertise.

Technologies

We have been working with several technologies including:

  • Analogue and Digital systems design
  • Micro-controllers (ARM, ST, Microchip) based real-time programmable systems
  • Digital Signal Processing(DSP), Field Programmable Gate Array(FPGA)
  • Embedded Internet, Internet of Thing (IoT)
  • Wireless systems (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, BLE, LoRa, Zigbee, NFC, RFID )
  • Wired Connectivity for automotive and others(USB, CAN bus (High Speed, Fault-tolerant, Single Wire), LIN bus, RS232, RS485, and Ethernet)

The products developed in CEPE can be adapted to either be working on high power with its safety requirements in mind or battery-powered and optimised for power consumption to specific requirements.

Postgraduate research

For current research opportunities visit our Graduate School website or contact Dr Ali Roula.

If you can secure your own PhD funding, please contact us. We are always interested in microelectronics technologies and systems topics and look for hard working graduates. You can see our electronics courses here.
